Why Iridium

Iridium is an L-band satellite network with coverage across every ocean. With lower data speeds than broadband services, Iridium is typically used as a backup link for basic communications and to keep vessels reachable in the most remote waters.

Coverage across every ocean

Iridium provides coverage in high-latitude and polar waters that broadband networks reach only partially or not at all, keeping vessels connected far from established shipping lanes.

Weather-resilient L-band

L-band signals hold steady in heavy rain and rough weather, where higher-frequency broadband can weaken or drop. This keeps a working connection available in conditions that interrupt other networks.

GMDSS and safety

Iridium supports GMDSS safety services, including distress alerting, safety voice, and Maritime Safety Information, as part of a vessel's onboard safety setup.
